ROCK CLIMBING

Rock Climbing can be an indoor or outdoor activity. It is physically and mentally demanding sport. It is a test of climber’s strength, endurance, agility along with mental control. This activity like any adventure sport requires specialized climbing equipments. Because of the wide range and variety of rock formations around the world, rock climbing has been separated into several different styles. At some places certain climbs can often prove to be gruelling and tough, but the magic of the surrounding mountain landscape keeps the spirits high.

Different types of rocks give out different challenges. For eg. Climbing an angled surface brings into account balance and friction than strength. Climbing a crack in a rock is a matter of mastering technique and strength; whereas climbing overhangs can really test a climber’s mental state, endurance and balance.

The equipments required for this adventure are

  1. Climbing Clothing - Wear clothing that is not restrictive and won't get in the way of you or the rope.
  2. Rock Climbing Shoes - The general rule is that closer-fitting shoes are the norm for more technically challenging climbs.
  3. Climbing Helmet - Climbing helmets are designed to cushion your head from falling rock and debris, and some (though not all) are designed to provide protection in the case of a fall.
  4. Climbing Harness – This consists of two parts – Waist belt and leg loops.
  5. Your harness allows you to tie into the rope securely and efficiently. All harnesses have two front tie-in points designed specifically for threading the rope and tying in, one at the waist and one at the leg loops. Generally the tie-in points are different than the dedicated belay loop. Buckling your harness correctly is essential for safety.
  6. Chalk - Just like gymnasts, climbers use chalk to improve their grip. Chalk absorbs perspiration on your hands. To lessen environmental impact, it's good form to use a chalk that matches the color of the rock you're climbing. Chalk is carried in a small pouch slung from your waist by a lightweight belt.
  7. Carabiners - These strong, light metal rings with spring-loaded gates connect the climbing rope to pieces of climbing protection such as bolts, nuts and camming devices.
  8. Belay Device - This is used to help the belayer control the rope.
  9. Climbing Ropes – Dynamic rock climbing ropes have elasticity. It's designed to absorb the energy of a fall—even though the force of a fall can be very large.
